SDP’s Adebayo likens FG’s 30-day petrol discount to ‘Fuji House of Commotion’

The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has criticized the Federal Government’s recent decision to provide a 30-day discount on petrol through the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), comparing it to the television series “Fuji House of Commotion.”
The government announced the petrol discount on Thursday, prioritizing public transport operators in its implementation. Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele characterized the initiative as a temporary measure, clarifying that it does not signify a return to fuel subsidies but rather allows NNPC to sell petrol at cost for the first month.
In an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Adebayo questioned the rationale and limited duration of this initiative. He labeled it a temporary gesture that lacks the foundation of a long-term policy.
“I saw the visual and heard about the policy or statement; I cannot determine if it is a policy or a gesture,” Adebayo remarked. “It immediately reminds me of a series on television in the 90s called ‘Fuji House of Commotion.’ It’s a presentation of chaos rather than clarity.”
Adebayo further argued that the individuals involved in the announcement do not represent the NNPC and highlighted that no account related to the petroleum subsidy has been established within the Ministry of Finance. He expressed concern over the lack of legal references to support the initiative.
“Thirty days is not short-term, medium-term, or long-term; it is merely a fleeting moment,” Adebayo said, before concluding that the government appears to be confused and overwhelmed by the issues it has created for itself.
