Stay away from schools in Oriire LG – NUT directs teachers

Nigeria Union of Teachers Directs Public School Educators to Withdraw from Classrooms Following Abductions
The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has ordered educators in public schools within the Oriire local government area to refrain from attending school amid security concerns. This decision comes in light of the recent abduction of 39 students and seven teachers from various schools in the region.
As of Tuesday, the kidnapped individuals remain in captivity, prompting the NUT to issue an indefinite withdrawal of services for teachers in the affected area. The directive was communicated in a statement authored by NUT State Secretary Salami Olukayode, who conveyed the gravity of the situation.
Olukayode described the abduction as a deeply troubling incident, one that has left a significant emotional impact on educators. He confirmed that the NUT’s national leadership has mandated the withdrawal of teachers’ services beginning Tuesday, May 26, until further notice.
“The Oyo state wing of the NUT hereby directs teachers in Oriire Local Government Area to stay away from the schools commencing from Tuesday, May 26, 2026,” Olukayode stated.
The organization’s response underscores growing concerns over safety in schools following the alarming rise in abductions. Further updates are anticipated as the situation develops.
