Sokoto State Former Governor Condemns Attack on ADC Governorship Candidate
SOKOTO, Nigeria — Aminu Tambuwal, former governor of Sokoto State and a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has condemned an alleged attack on the party’s governorship candidate, Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, and his convoy.
In a statement shared on social media Saturday, Tambuwal reported that the incident took place near Sokoto Airport on Friday, October 30, 2026. He claimed that personnel from the Sokoto Marshal and Sokoto State Community Guard impeded Dan’iya’s convoy, fired gunshots, damaged his vehicle, and detained two officers from the Department of State Services (DSS) who were part of Dan’iya’s security detail.
“I strongly condemn the reported attack on our Sokoto State ADC governorship candidate, Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, and members of his convoy,” Tambuwal stated. He described the allegations of blockade, gunfire, property damage, and detention of security personnel as “deeply disturbing.”
Tambuwal called on the Nigeria Police Force, the DSS, and other security agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident, urging that those responsible be held accountable.
He emphasized that every Nigerian has the right to move freely, engage with a political party, and seek public office in accordance with the law, noting that no citizen should face violence or intimidation when exercising these rights. Tambuwal encouraged individuals with political grievances to address them through peaceful and lawful channels, rather than resorting to violence.
“Security outfits have a duty to protect all citizens, regardless of political affiliation,” he added, stressing that these agencies must not become tools of political intimidation. He also urged the Sokoto State Government to ensure that security forces operate lawfully and impartially.
Tambuwal reaffirmed the ADC’s commitment to proceed with its scheduled presidential campaign flag-off on November 4, 2026, stating that intimidation would not deter their efforts. He urged supporters to remain calm, exercise restraint, and stand firm.
“Sokoto belongs to all its people. Nigeria belongs to all of us. Our democracy must safeguard the rights of every citizen to participate freely and without fear,” Tambuwal concluded.
