Time is of essence – Kwankwasiyya movement urges Supreme Court to expedite ruling on ADC case

Kwankwasiyya Movement Urges Swift Supreme Court Ruling on ADC Case

The Kwankwasiyya Movement has called on the Supreme Court of Nigeria to expedite its ruling in a case concerning the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The movement warns that delays could hinder the party’s participation in the nation’s democratic processes.

In a statement released Friday, spokesperson Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed expressed confidence in the Supreme Court’s integrity and independence but emphasized the need for a timely decision due to the urgency of the situation.

“The Kwankwasiyya Movement wishes to address members of the African Democratic Congress, our supporters, and all Nigerians regarding the ongoing proceedings before the Supreme Court of Nigeria,” the statement read.

“While we remain confident in the integrity, independence, and sense of responsibility of the Supreme Court, we find it necessary to highlight the urgency surrounding this matter.”

The organization noted that the current circumstances have placed the ADC under considerable pressure, as electoral processes are governed by strict timelines. “As it stands, our party is in a race against time,” the statement continued.

The group warned that an unclear and delayed ruling could impair the party’s ability to organize and mobilize effectively within the democratic arena. The movement urged the court to consider both the legal aspects of the case and the time-sensitive nature of the issues at hand, particularly regarding democratic participation and political stability.

“It is our hope that the Supreme Court will take into account not only the legal merits of the case but also the urgency of the issues involved,” Mohammed added.

According to the statement, the Supreme Court has shown in the past that justice must be both fair and timely, especially in cases with significant implications for the country. “The Court has demonstrated that justice, to be truly meaningful, must not only be fair but also timely, particularly in matters with direct implications for democratic participation and national stability,” it noted.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement expressed confidence that the court would act in a manner that supports both the judiciary and Nigeria’s multi-party democracy. “We are assured that the Supreme Court will exercise its constitutional mandate in a way that preserves the integrity of the judiciary and the vitality of Nigeria’s multi-party democracy,” it stated.

The movement also appealed to its members and supporters to maintain calm and unity as the legal process unfolds. “We urge patience, unity, and continued commitment to lawful and democratic engagement. This moment calls for resolve and confidence in the institutions that underpin our democracy,” the statement concluded.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement reaffirmed its belief that justice would be served fairly and promptly. “We remain assured that justice will prevail, timely, fairly, and in the best interest of Nigeria,” it stated.
