Tinubu nominates six NMDPRA directors, seeks Senate approval for five-year tenure

President Bola Tinubu has nominated six candidates for executive director positions at the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), including three new appointees and three returning members. These nominations are pending Senate confirmation.

The nominations were communicated in a letter to the Senate and announced in a statement from the Presidency on Friday, October 30, 2026. The returning directors include Abiodun Adeniji for Finance and Accounts, Ogbugo Kalu Ukoha for Distribution Systems, Storage, and Retailing Infrastructure, and Mustapha Lamorde for Health, Safety, Environment, and Community.

The new nominees are Mobolaji Tajudeen Musa for Hydrocarbon Processing Plants, Installations, and Transportation Infrastructure; Ogechukwu Modie for Economic Regulations and Strategic Planning; and Said Abutalib for Corporate Services and Administration.

If approved, the six nominees will serve a five-year term. President Tinubu has requested the Senate to expedite the confirmation process, stating that timely approval would ensure institutional continuity and enhance the Authority’s oversight capabilities.

Additionally, the President has appointed Jumoke Gafar as Secretary to the Board/Authority and Legal Adviser, contingent upon compliance with statutory requirements outlined in Section 46 of the Petroleum Industry Act. In April, Tinubu appointed Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as the chief executive of the agency.
