Nigerian Troops Arrest Two Suspected Boko Haram Members in Borno State
Borno State, Nigeria — Troops from the Joint Task Force North East, operating under Operation HADIN KAI, captured two suspected members of Boko Haram during a clearance operation on the Mandaragirau–Kurtum axis on July 22.
The Nigerian Army reported the operation occurred at approximately 10 a.m. and involved the 162 Amphibious Battalion, along with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), local hunters, and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN).
The joint security team conducted the operation using a gun truck and ten motorcycles, targeting the Mandaragirau–Kurtum route and the Nguma area. This mission is part of ongoing efforts to eliminate suspected terrorist hideouts and restrict the movement of insurgents.
During the operation, the troops apprehended two suspects: Sidi Shagari, 42, and Abubakar Sadiq, 25, known as “Buba.” Both individuals are from Birni in the Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
Authorities recovered several items from the suspects, including two mobile phones, three cutlasses, one dagger, and 9,500 Nigerian Naira. The suspects, along with the recovered items, were taken to the Abogo Largema Cantonment for further investigation.
This operation is part of the broader Operation Desert Sanity V, which aims to interrupt terrorist activities, dismantle insurgent networks, and improve security throughout the North-East region.
While the overall security situation remains calm, officials acknowledged its unpredictable nature and emphasized that troops are maintaining heightened vigilance. Morale and fighting efficiency among the troops remain reported as high.
