Nigerian Army Troops Neutralize Suspected Terrorist, Seize Arms in Lokoja
LOKOJA, Nigeria — Troops from the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade, operating under “Operation Tiger Paw II,” neutralized a suspected terrorist and recovered a substantial cache of weapons in a coordinated ambush in the Adankolo Forest Reserve.
The details were released in a statement from the Brigade’s spokesperson, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, on Monday.
This operation is part of ongoing efforts to secure key routes in Kogi State, following prior actions against criminal elements in areas near Obajana and the Agbaja forest.
According to the release, troops from the 12 Brigade Quick Response Group acted on credible intelligence regarding the movement of suspected terrorists. They positioned themselves at a known bandit crossing point within the forest reserve.
Upon encountering the group, the soldiers engaged them in a fierce gunfight, resulting in the neutralization of one terrorist. Others reportedly fled into nearby underbrush with gunshot wounds.
A subsequent search of the area yielded significant arms and logistics. Items recovered included two AK-47 rifles, one locally fabricated pistol, six magazines, and 145 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
Additionally, the military reported the seizure of a camouflage bandolier, a Honda motorcycle, Diclofenac medication, three mobile phones, three power banks, and cash totaling N62,900.
The army emphasized that this operation underscores its commitment to curbing terrorist activity and enhancing security along major routes and within local communities in Kogi State. Troops are currently conducting further searches in the area to locate and apprehend the fleeing individuals.
