Nasty C Attributes Global Success of African Music to Wizkid’s Collaboration with Drake

South African rapper Nasty C has acknowledged Nigerian artist Wizkid for his role in elevating the global presence of African music. In a recent podcast interview, the artist, known for his album “Zulu Man With Some Power,” highlighted the significance of Wizkid’s collaboration with Canadian musician Drake on the 2016 hit “One Dance.”

Nasty C stated that the partnership was pivotal in opening international doors for contemporary Afrobeats artists. He noted that following the release of “One Dance,” many rappers began transitioning from hip-hop to Afrobeats, drawn by the genre’s increasing profitability.

“Wizkid and Drake’s collaboration on ‘One Dance’ opened the door for African artists. After that, African music received a significant boost. During my interviews in Nigeria and Ghana, hosts mentioned that some rappers were even shifting to Afrobeats due to its newfound lucrativeness,” he remarked.

According to the DAILY POST, “One Dance,” which features Wizkid and British singer Kyla, has achieved significant accolades, including the Guinness World Record as the first song to reach one billion streams on Spotify. The track fuses elements of Afrobeats, dancehall, and pop, playing a critical role in bringing global attention to the Afrobeats genre.

Drake has publicly acknowledged Wizkid’s substantial contribution to the track, where he is credited as co-songwriter, co-producer, and performer.
