2027: Alia moves to reconcile APC stakeholders in Benue, invites Akume, others

Governor Alia Receives Nomination Forms, Announces APC Reconciliation Meeting

By Peter Duru, Makurdi

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has announced plans for a high-level reconciliation meeting among All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders. The meeting will include Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and aims to unify party members in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

Alia shared this development following the receipt of his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms, which were jointly procured by the Benue State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) and the Benue Motorcycle Owners Association (BMOA).

“This meeting is crucial for resolving our internal differences and fostering unity within the party,” Alia stated. He has invited members of the National and State Assemblies, along with other stakeholders, to join the discussions scheduled for Sunday.

“Everyone invited has agreed to attend,” he confirmed. “My delegation will be present, and together we will aim to strengthen our party’s unity.”

The governor emphasized that any divisions among party members are minor compared to their shared objectives. “What divides us is not strong enough; what unites us is larger, bigger, and stronger,” he remarked.

Alia expressed hope that the reconciliation efforts would unite all factions, underscoring the importance of inclusivity for the party’s success. He reiterated that the APC’s achievements in 2023 should be exceeded in 2027.

He also highlighted the need for continuity in governance and support for President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming election cycle.

In addressing his administration’s achievements, Alia noted ongoing reforms aimed at industrial development. He attributed opposition to his policies to individuals previously involved in the mismanagement of state resources. “Benue is a rich state, but poor resource management has hindered our progress,” he explained.

Alia recalled the neglect of key state industries and assured that his administration is focused on reversing these trends with new investments, including a brewery and fruit juice factories.

Regarding infrastructure, the governor countered claims of neglect in the Benue South Senatorial District, asserting that over N76 billion in road projects are currently in progress. He also mentioned major water projects underway, including those for Greater Makurdi, Gboko, and Katsina-Ala.

Additionally, Alia announced plans to provide housing for civil servants, emphasizing that worker welfare is a priority for his administration.

“If you don’t bring Alia back, who else will execute these projects?” he questioned.

Michael Vember, State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, stated that the organization purchased the nomination forms to acknowledge the governor’s commitment to the welfare of pensioners and overall state development. Similarly, Terfa Aha, State President of BMOA, cited road infrastructure improvements as a primary reason for their support.
