2027: Babachir considers voting for Sowore, rules out APC, ADC, NDC

Former SGF Babachir Lawal Considers Voting for Sowore in 2027, Rules Out Major Parties
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal expressed a possible inclination to support activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore in the upcoming 2027 elections. In a recent interview with TVC, Lawal explicitly ruled out backing the All Progressives Congress (APC), the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Lawal’s comments follow his resignation from the ADC, where he cited alleged irregularities in the party’s presidential primary that selected former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its candidate.
When questioned about the potential viability of a ticket featuring Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, Lawal dismissed the major political options presently available. He referred to the existing choices as “the devil and the devil,” suggesting dissatisfaction with the current landscape.
“As bad as Bola Tinubu is now, Atiku will be a worse president,” he stated, emphasizing that his criticisms of both candidates should not be misinterpreted as endorsements of alternative candidates.
Lawal clarified that, while he retains the right to vote, he has not yet chosen a preferred candidate. “I have one vote to myself when the time comes. I might even vote for Sowore; there are other individuals emerging who I believe could handle Nigeria better,” he said.
Furthermore, Lawal indicated he has made determinations about which political parties he will not support in the 2027 election. “At least, I’ve made a choice to eliminate. I have eliminated APC, now I have eliminated ADC, and I can tell you categorically that I have eliminated NDC,” he confirmed.
His recent resignation from the ADC was accompanied by allegations that the party’s primary was manipulated in favor of Atiku Abubakar. Lawal accused the party leadership of compromising the electoral process, claiming that results were altered to benefit the former vice president—accusations that the ADC has denied.
