2027: Eno warns against return to violence, division in Akwa Ibom
Governor Eno Calls for Peace Ahead of 2027 Elections
UYO, Nigeria — As the campaigns for the 2027 general elections begin, Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno has issued a firm warning against political violence within the state. During a New Month thanksgiving service at Qua Iboe Church on Sunday, Eno emphasized the importance of unity, urging residents to avoid a return to past divisions and conflicts.
“We must work together and embrace everyone,” Eno stated, highlighting that collective effort and peaceful coexistence are essential for the state’s continued progress and prosperity.
The governor attributed his attendance at the church service to what he described as divine guidance and announced plans to worship at other churches across the state on Sundays throughout the anniversary month.
In his remarks, Eno commended his appointees from the church for their dedication and commitment, asserting that their selections were made based on merit rather than affiliation.
Reverend Ekpedeme Efanga, General Superintendent of Qua Iboe Church, addressed the congregation, reflecting on the significance of Akwa Ibom’s approaching 40th anniversary. He urged citizens to express gratitude by celebrating God’s mercies, victories, and blessings.
“Let us join hands with the government in celebrating these years of faithfulness,” Efanga encouraged, also advocating for acts of love, kindness, and appreciation during the anniversary season.
Earlier in the service, Elder Ubong David, Chairman of the Church, thanked Governor Eno for his support and acknowledged the appointments of various church members, including Deaconess Valerie Obot, Elder Nsikanabasi Umoekpo, Elder Udo Ekwere, and Dr. Essien Ndueso.
