2027: I endorse Obi, but I still support Tinubu’s policies — Omo-Agege

Omo-Agege Endorses Obi in 2027 Election, Backs Tinubu Policies
Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege has publicly endorsed Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi for the 2027 election, while also reaffirming his support for key economic reforms initiated by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In an interview on ARISE TV’s The Morning Show Wednesday, Omo-Agege discussed his political stance following his recent departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
When questioned about his endorsement of Obi, given his previous support for Tinubu’s economic policies, Omo-Agege insisted that his position on the reforms remains unchanged.
“I was a member of the APC. I never left the APC; the party left me and left my over 230,000 supporters in Delta State,” he said.
Omo-Agege expressed confidence in significant economic decisions made by the current administration, particularly citing the removal of the fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira as necessary reforms. “When Mr. President came up with the economic policies, particularly the naira floatation and subsidy removal, these are policies I supported and continue to support,” he stated.
However, he emphasized that support for these policies should not be viewed as exclusive to the APC or President Tinubu. “Even though these policies were espoused by Mr. President, which I support, the same policies were also supported by Peter Obi,” he noted.
Omo-Agege clarified that his endorsement of Obi does not signify a rejection of the reforms, but rather a belief that they would be better implemented under Obi’s leadership. “The question is, have I changed my opinion about this? No, I have not,” he said.
He further argued that many Nigerians who have concerns about the current policies might feel more assured under Obi, as they trust him to execute these measures effectively.
“The policies are not bad policies,” Omo-Agege concluded, defending the reforms while expressing his ongoing support for them.
