Nigeria to get new National Resource Center for PWDs

Nigeria to Establish National Resource Center for Sensory Impairment
A new national resource center aimed at supporting individuals with sensory impairments is set to be established in Nigeria. This initiative is gaining momentum through the collaboration of key figures, including Bernard Doro, the head of the country’s humanitarian affairs and disaster management, and former Kano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, along with other humanitarian stakeholders.
Doro emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “People living with disabilities cannot continue to be ignored in Nigeria.” He called for a shift toward designing accessible environments rather than retrofitting existing solutions. “Moving forward, technology must empower individuals to navigate the world on their own terms,” he added.
Fatima Ganduje Abiola-Ajumobi, founder of Let’s Talk Humanity and a pioneer behind the center, shared her commitment to making a meaningful impact on the lives of people with disabilities (PWDs). “This national resource center will enable those with sensory impairments to access international knowledge and resources that are more advanced in terms of support for special needs,” she said.
Previously, Ganduje urged Northern governors and the Nigerian government to invest in programs for PWDs as a strategy to combat the growing issue of begging in the region.
