Troops rescue six abducted women, children in Borno

Military Rescues Six Women and Children from Boko Haram-Linked Captivity
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully rescued six women and children abducted by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Ngoshe village, located in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The rescue operation was confirmed in a statement released Friday by Lt. Col. Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force North-East.
According to the statement, the victims were freed during a coordinated operation that involved sustained offensive actions, including targeted air missions aimed at terrorists hiding in the Mandara Mountains.
Acting on reliable intelligence, troops intercepted the captives in the early hours of May 1, 2026, in the Amuda area, a known stronghold for terrorist activities between Ngoshe and Gava.
The rescued individuals have been identified as Zainab Idris, 18; Fatima Abubakar, 17; Maimuna Abdulrashid, 24; Muhammad Idris, 1; Sadiq Abdullahi, 7; and Fatima Abdulrashid, 5.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victims were kidnapped during an attack on the Ngoshe community on March 3, 2026. They had been held in a terrorist enclave until their escape.
Despite facing sporadic gunfire from fleeing terrorists attempting to recapture the victims, the troops successfully repelled the attackers after a brief exchange of fire.
The military noted that intensified pressure on terrorist groups has led to a decline in their operational capabilities, resulting in increased efforts by captives to escape.
Following their rescue, the victims received medical assistance before being returned to community leaders and reunited with their families.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria reiterated their commitment to ongoing operations aimed at rescuing abducted individuals and combating terrorist threats in the North-East region.
