Aondoakaa Named PDP Consensus Governorship Candidate for Benue’s 2027 Elections
Makurdi, Benue – Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Michael Aondoakaa (SAN), has officially emerged as the consensus governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State for the upcoming 2027 elections.
Aondoakaa secured the candidacy during a consensus meeting where 10 other aspirants withdrew in support of his nomination. This decision was ratified following extensive consultations among party leaders and stakeholders.
Key figures involved in the consensus process included former Governor Samuel Ortom and Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, alongside PDP State Chairman Ezekiel Adaji and members of the PDP State Executive Committee. Influential groups within the party, such as the G-14 and G-9 blocs, also played a significant role in reaching this agreement.
While some aspirants, including Professor Dennis Ityavyar, expressed reservations about zoning, they acknowledged the credibility of the consensus process and committed to uniting under Aondoakaa’s leadership for the sake of party cohesion.
Dominic Ucha, a two-term member of the Benue House of Assembly, congratulated Aondoakaa and assured him of his support in achieving victory in the forthcoming elections. Other aspirants similarly pledged their endorsement and cooperation to ensure the party’s success.
Ortom praised the aspirants for their maturity and loyalty, describing the outcome as a pivotal move toward repositioning the PDP for electoral victory. He urged stakeholders to maintain unity and focus on the collective interest of the state while emphasizing the need to reclaim power from the current administration.
Moro characterized the consensus process as challenging yet essential, highlighting the urgent necessity for effective leadership in the state. He called on party members and the people of Benue to rally around the PDP’s mission.
In his acceptance speech, Aondoakaa expressed his commitment to fostering reconciliation within the party, promising to unify its structures in preparation for the elections. He conveyed gratitude for the support he has received, assuring potential voters of his dedication to responsive governance if elected in 2027.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that other aspirants involved in the consensus process included Rev. Tor Uja, Tersoo Loko, and Professor Sebastine Hon (SAN), along with Oyije Ogbenjua, retired Naval Commander Ode Ojowu, Tor-Tiv Ato, Simon Ater, and Bemgba Iortyom.
