2027: Fubara reaffirms loyalty to APC, dismisses defection rumours

Governor Fubara Reaffirms Loyalty to APC Amid Defection Speculations

By Daniel Abia, Port Harcourt

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara addressed recent rumors regarding his political affiliations on Wednesday, asserting that he remains a committed member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). This statement comes in the wake of speculation that he may have joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as political realignments begin in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

Fubara made his remarks during an inspection of the newly constructed General Hospital and the remodeled Neuropsychiatric Hospital in the state. He emphasized that media reports suggesting his departure from the APC were unfounded.

“I know that there has been a lot of drama in the media; one story or another. I am a member of the All Progressives Congress, and nothing has changed,” Fubara said. “People should stop using whatever situation they pick up from social media or their own interpretations to portray me incorrectly.”

The governor’s statements come shortly after his brother, Blessing Fubara, defected from the APC to the NDC, prompting speculation that the governor might follow suit. Reports indicated that certain state House of Assembly candidates allegedly faced screening challenges within the APC, intensifying these rumors.

During the inspection, Dr. Vincent Wachukwu, Director of Medical Services in the Rivers State Ministry of Health, guided Governor Fubara through the hospital facilities, including wards and administrative areas. Fubara expressed satisfaction with the completion of both projects, noting their importance in addressing critical health care needs in the region.

He highlighted the lack of a general hospital in the area, stating that the nearest medical facility, the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, was too far for local residents. “It was important for us to establish a general hospital that could serve the surrounding communities,” he said, expressing pride in the completion of the projects.

“This project is not 95 percent complete; it is a hundred percent complete,” he added. “We’re happy because it is a promise made and a promise fulfilled. Our people should be first, and that is how important this project is for us.”

The governor’s reaffirmation of loyalty to the APC comes at a critical time as political dynamics in Rivers State continue to evolve ahead of the upcoming elections.
