The Nigerian Army, under the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, has intensified its efforts against banditry in Taraba State through a series of clearance operations under the codename ‘Operation Golden Peace.’

The operations, which follow extensive patrols and community engagements, have successfully dismantled multiple bandit hideouts in the northern region of the state.

The latest phase of the operation began on November 28, 2024, targeting notorious bandit and terrorist camps around the Lijem High Ground in Takum Local Government Area. The troops cleared the hideouts and extended their security presence near Vingiri and Vingir villages, boosting the confidence of local residents.

Further operations on November 29 and 30 focused on areas including Kufai Ahmadu, Jam, Hingir, Ukum, and Nbaume villages. Notably, in the New Gboko and Che Adekpe camps—linked to the wanted criminal Liamdoo Douglas Adekpe, also known as Boujogh—troops engaged bandits in a fierce gunfight. Overwhelmed by superior firepower, the bandits retreated in disarray.

During the operations, the troops destroyed several camps and recovered ammunition, including 27 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, an AK-47 magazine, a handheld Baofeng radio, and two motorcycles.

To reinforce security, the troops extended their presence to the Akume and Ananum areas of Donga Local Government Area on November 30.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, commended the cooperation of local communities and urged continued vigilance and timely reporting of suspicious activities. “Together, we will ensure peace and security across Taraba State and beyond,” General Uwa assured the public.
