ASABA—Dr. Emmanuel Unuafe, a lecturer at Arden University in the United Kingdom, has been chosen as the gubernatorial candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Delta State. He secured the party’s nomination during a primary election held on Friday in Asaba, the state capital.

Mr. Jerry Ojale, Chairman of the ADC Screening and Primary Election Committee for Delta State, announced Unuafe’s selection, emphasizing that he was the only candidate who met the party’s requirements without opposition.

“The party has its guidelines and constitution. Many expressed interest, but through the process, we determined that only one candidate qualified,” Ojale stated.

Addressing rumors regarding divisions within the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ojale affirmed the legitimacy of the party’s leadership. “We have only one Delta State chairman whose name is listed on the INEC portal, Engr. Austin Okolie. There is no other individual recognized,” he said.

Austin Okolie, the ADC Chairman, referred to the success of the primary election as a new horizon for Delta State.

In his victory speech, Unuafe pledged to promote economic empowerment in Delta State through a comprehensive development plan. He expressed his determination to uplift the community, drawing on his own experiences. “I grew up in a village and understand the challenges. The ADC aims to improve living conditions and diversify the economy from oil and gas to agriculture,” he said.

Unuafe highlighted recent legislative changes that exempt agricultural businesses from taxation, which he believes will encourage investment in the sector. “Our vision is to expand agriculture, putting more money in the pockets of those who engage in meaningful farming,” he added.

Rejecting influences from political “godfathers,” he underscored his commitment to creating pathways for aspiring leaders from all backgrounds in Delta.

Additionally, Unuafe expressed intentions to enhance the blue economy in riverine areas and emphasized the need to revitalize once-thriving businesses in Delta, such as the ports and textile mills, which have suffered due to neglect.

He also plans to leverage his experience as a football referee in the UK to foster international collaborations aimed at enhancing sports talent in Delta.

“Investments in rural development, primary healthcare, and agro export promotion will play a crucial role in job creation and economic growth,” he stated.

Unuafe concluded by stressing the importance of digitizing government operations to address inefficiencies and improve public services. He noted, “During my nomination process, I observed the poor conditions within the judiciary. My administration will prioritize the welfare of workers and enhance living standards across Delta State.”
