Islamic Cleric Killed in Kwara State
A prominent Islamic cleric, Alfa Iliasu, was killed on Saturday in Ilesha-Baruba, located in the Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Reports indicate that assailants attacked Iliasu’s residence and struck him in the head with a cutlass. He was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries before receiving treatment.
Iliasu was well-regarded in Baruten and surrounding communities for his spiritual practices, particularly his reputed ability to identify witches, which garnered him considerable attention over the years.
According to sources, three individuals participated in the attack. One suspect was killed at the scene, while another has been arrested and is currently in police custody for further investigation. The third suspect remains at large.
Following the cleric’s death, family, friends, and local Islamic scholars gathered to pay their respects before he was interred at the Ilesha-Baruba Muslim Cemetery, in accordance with Islamic customs.
Efforts to contact the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi, for comment were unsuccessful.
