Lagos State Assembly Speaker Calls for Unified Action Against Insecurity

LAGOS — Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, urged all stakeholders to collaborate in addressing the escalating insecurity in Nigeria. Speaking on Tuesday, Obasa emphasized the need for lasting solutions to ensure peace and security across communities.

His remarks came during a meeting with teachers protesting the recent abduction of 39 students and seven teachers in Oyo State. The protest was organized by Comrade Hassan Akintoye, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers in the state.

The abduction occurred on May 15, 2026, in the Oriire local government area. In his address, Obasa reassured the educators of the legislature’s commitment to establishing a state police force.

Additionally, he cautioned social media users against disseminating misinformation that could exacerbate public fears. “We feel the pains of our teachers and we sympathize with them. We are indeed in this together, and we will not fold our arms. We are all stakeholders in this situation and must collectively seek solutions that will bring lasting peace and security to our schools and communities,” Obasa stated.
