Ogun State Police Arrest 38 Foreign Nationals for Visa Violations

The Ogun State Police Command reported the arrest of 38 foreign nationals from Côte d’Ivoire during an operation in Kajola-Ilese and Atan-Ota. Contrary to some social media reports, the police clarified that no bandits or terrorists were apprehended in the operation.

The arrested individuals, consisting of 19 males and 19 females aged between 25 and 35, were discovered in an apartment based on credible intelligence. They reportedly entered Nigeria for online business activities.

Police Public Relations Officer DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi emphasized that the suspects were unable to produce valid immigration or travel documents during initial screenings. He underscored that the claims linking the foreign nationals to criminal activities, such as banditry or kidnapping, are false and misleading.

“At no time during the operation were bandits, kidnappers, or terrorists arrested, nor was any security-related incident connected to these apprehensions reported,” Babaseyi stated. He expressed concern that misinformation could create unnecessary panic and disrupt public peace.

Following preliminary procedures, the police handed over all 38 suspects to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigation and appropriate actions in accordance with immigration laws.

The police urged the public to rely on verified information and report security matters through official channels to avoid spreading unverified claims that may heighten fear in the community. The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to ensuring public safety and protecting lives and property.
