Constable Fatally Shot in Toronto; Suspect Still at Large

Toronto police are investigating the fatal shooting of a constable who was executing a search warrant related to a March attack on the U.S. consulate. The incident occurred Thursday while Constable Marc Pinizzotto, 43, was conducting operations in connection with multiple shootings.

Police Chief Myron Demkiw confirmed that Pinizzotto was shot and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. During a press conference, Demkiw stated that the search warrant pertained to various incidents, including the shooting at the consulate.

One suspect linked to the shooting is in custody at a local hospital, while authorities are actively searching for a second suspect, identified as 19-year-old Zara Jabbi, who is considered armed and dangerous. “I urge you to turn yourself in,” Demkiw said.

The March attack on the U.S. consulate involved two individuals firing multiple rounds at the building early in the morning. Fortunately, the facility sustained only exterior damage, and no injuries were reported. Federal authorities are investigating whether the incident qualifies as a terrorist attack.

The consulate has been a focal point for protests related to the U.S.-Israel conflict, particularly concerning tensions surrounding Iran.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow expressed her condolences, having known Pinizzotto’s family for 20 years. “The death of Police Constable Marc Pinizzotto is heartbreaking news for our city,” she wrote on social media. “This grief is shared across the entire city.”
