Police smash cultists’ initiation process in Ogun, arrest 30 suspects

Ogun State Police Arrest 30 Suspected Cultists in Isara-Remo Initiation Procession
The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended 30 male suspects in Isara-Remo, who are believed to be part of a cultist initiation ceremony. The arrests occurred on Tuesday after police received credible intelligence about unlawful activities taking place at an uncompleted building in the area.
According to police reports, the suspects were consuming alcohol and chanting when officers from the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), in coordination with detectives from the Isara Area Command and Isara Division, intervened. During the operation, police recovered four vehicles allegedly abandoned during a hasty escape, along with a jackknife, a local drum, a rattle, and various bottles suspected of containing alcohol.
Police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed the operation took place at around 4 p.m. on June 16. “Acting on the intelligence, the Commander of the VCRU mobilized a combined team of operatives to disperse the gathering and arrest the suspects in a tactical operation,” he stated.
The suspects have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta and will face charges upon completion of the investigation. Efforts are ongoing to capture other suspects who managed to flee.
Ogun State Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni praised the discipline and professionalism of the officers involved. He reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and its zero-tolerance policy toward violent crime and illegal gatherings. The commissioner urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.
