Hausa community seeks development of larger settlement in Abia

Hausa Community Leader Raises Concerns with Abia State Government
UMUAHIA, Nigeria — Sariki Bello Shehu II, leader of the Hausa community in Aba, presented several challenges facing Hausa traders and residents to the Abia State government on Wednesday. Shehu led a delegation to the Abia State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, where he urged officials to consider developing a larger settlement along the Osioma axis. The proposed site would include a mosque, market, schools, and residential facilities.
Shehu highlighted that the growing number of worshippers often results in traffic congestion during Friday prayers. He emphasized the need for improved urban planning to prevent the conversion of residential buildings into commercial properties and called for enhancements to affordable metropolitan transportation services within Aba.
In addition, Shehu expressed gratitude for the support provided by Governor Alex Otti and Chief of Staff Caleb Ajagba during recent security incidents involving Hausa traders.
During the meeting, Abia State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Uzor Nwachukwu commended the Hausa community for their peaceful coexistence within the state. He assured them that the Otti administration is committed to inclusivity, stating that all lawful residents will continue to receive protection and access to welfare programs.
Nwachukwu affirmed that the state government aims to collaborate with stakeholders to promote peace, unity, and the overall development of Abia State.
