Transfer: Arsenal secure signing of highly-rated goalkeeper

Arsenal Signs Promising Goalkeeper Phoenix Blayney from Larne
Arsenal Football Club has finalized a deal to acquire highly regarded goalkeeper Phoenix Blayney from Larne, enhancing their player development pipeline at Hale End.
The arrangement, confirmed by the player’s father, Alan Blayney, involves a nominal fee for compensation related to the young goalkeeper’s training and development. The transfer is expected to be formalized this summer following a successful trial with the north London club.
Alan Blayney stated that his son is poised to sign a pre-contract agreement with Arsenal, which will come into effect when he turns professional on his 17th birthday in November 2027. “Everything has been settled with Arsenal; he merely needs to sign the contract,” he told the Belfast Telegraph.
Phoenix Blayney, 16, reportedly attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, including Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, but ultimately chose Arsenal due to the allure of the opportunity. “His time at Arsenal was enjoyable; he felt a connection there and appreciates the coaching staff,” Alan Blayney noted.
It was also mentioned that Blayney has a close friend, Daniel McCarron, who recently joined Arsenal, further influencing his decision. Both players represent Northern Ireland at the youth level.
Despite his youth and limited senior experience, Blayney will aim to hone his skills within the Under-18 ranks under the guidance of head coach Adam Birchall, who took over the position in October 2024 following Jack Wilshere’s departure for a senior management role.
