I was diagnosed with mental health condition – YCee

Nigerian Rapper YCee Discusses Mental Health Struggles
Nigerian singer and rapper Oludemilade Martin Alejo, known professionally as YCee, has opened up about his mental health struggles, revealing a diagnosis he received in 2020.
In a recent episode of the Afropolitan podcast, YCee shared that his condition contributed to a hiatus from the music industry. The artist was hospitalized in London for three months following his diagnosis and later returned to Nigeria for continued treatment and therapy.
“In 2020, I got diagnosed with a mental health condition during the lockdown. I was in London for six months and was in-and-out of the hospital for about three months,” said YCee during the podcast.
He explained that he had to return to Nigeria due to visa constraints, and adjusting to the mental health system in Nigeria proved challenging. “It was a very long six years. I was on medication and had to be hospitalized several times and still dealt with therapies,” he noted.
YCee described the experience as a constant cycle of ups and downs. “Sometimes it is looking good and sometimes it just gets really dark,” he recalled.
Following extensive treatment and therapy, YCee stated that he is now stable.
