‘I’m disappointed’ – Delta Gov’s aide reacts to backlash on Remi Tinubu’s Akara advice

Delta State Governor’s Aide Defends First Lady’s Business Advice Amid Backlash
Ossai Ovie Success, media aide to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, expressed disappointment over the criticism directed at Nigerian First Lady Remi Tinubu for her recent business advice aimed at unemployed women.
In a viral video, Mrs. Tinubu encouraged women to consider starting small-scale businesses, such as selling bean cakes, commonly known as Akara, and roasted corn. The advice, however, triggered a wave of discontent among Nigerians, many of whom argued that it reflects a failure by those in power to address the escalating unemployment crisis.
Critics have voiced their belief that suggesting such entrepreneurship as a solution for joblessness signals a lack of effective strategies for tackling the high unemployment rate in the country.
In response to the backlash, Ovie took to his official Facebook page on Sunday to defend the merits of the Akara business. He stated that running an Akara venture can be more profitable than a traditional bank job, citing potential earnings of up to 240,000 Naira per month.
Ovie remarked, “If you fry Akara in a good location, you can sell 500 pieces per day at 20 Naira each. That’s 10,000 Naira daily, or 60,000 Naira in a six-day week.” He also noted that some vendors could earn over one million Naira monthly, underscoring that operating an Akara business typically requires only three hours of work each day.
Ovie concluded by expressing disappointment in those who demean the Akara business, emphasizing its potential as a viable income source.
