Kwara State Police Arrest Three Alleged Cult Members in Student’s Murder Case
The Kwara State Police Command announced the arrest of three suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity in connection with the alleged abduction and murder of a Kwara State Polytechnic student. The victim, Sodiq Durodola Olaniyi, 29, was reported missing on June 4.
Police spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi issued a statement on July 1, confirming that the arrests took place on June 29. The suspects were apprehended by the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) during coordinated operations targeting identified cult hideouts in Ilorin.
The suspects have been identified as Adeoye Babatunde Alimi, 23, known as “Solar”; Bernard Kayode, 25, referred to as “KK”; and Owoyemi Bashiru, 27, who goes by “GDP.” According to police, preliminary investigations suggest the suspects confessed to their involvement in Olaniyi’s abduction and subsequent murder.
“During interrogation, the suspects admitted to their roles in the crime and revealed that the victim was killed shortly after his abduction,” the statement noted.
The police indicated that their investigations uncovered a criminal gang consisting of 12 members, with nine additional suspects still at large. Efforts are underway to locate these individuals, dismantle the network, and recover the victim’s remains.
The suspects in custody are also providing information related to other violent crimes attributed to the group in the Ilorin area. The police stated that the investigation is ongoing, and all individuals found responsible will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
