Nasarawa Police Foil Kidnapping Attempt, Rescue Four Victims
Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt along the Akwanga–Jos Road, rescuing four victims following a confrontation with armed suspects in the Akwanga Local Government Area.
The operation occurred at approximately 9:40 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, after authorities received a distress call regarding suspected kidnappers near Megona Filling Station in Andaha.
According to Police Public Relations Officer SP Ramhan Nansel, officers from the Andaha Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, quickly responded to the emergency. Upon arrival at the scene, the armed suspects fired upon the approaching police, resulting in an exchange of gunfire.
The police managed to overpower the assailants, who fled into the nearby bush with suspected gunshot injuries, leaving their captives behind. The four rescued victims emerged unharmed.
In addition to the rescue, law enforcement recovered several provisions believed to have been stolen from a nearby store. The seized items have been placed into police custody as investigations continue.
Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed commended the officers for their bravery and quick response, highlighting the operation as a testament to the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property in the region.
The police commissioner has initiated a thorough manhunt for the fleeing suspects, instructing that all available operational and intelligence resources be utilized for their apprehension and prosecution.
Nansel noted that the ongoing search is being conducted in collaboration with military personnel, local vigilante groups, and hunters, who are conducting coordinated operations in the area.
The Nasarawa State Police Command urged residents to remain vigilant and to provide timely, credible information to assist in crime-fighting efforts and enhance public safety throughout the state.
