Father, 15-year-old daughter die after falling into Kano well
Tragedy Strikes in Kano as Father and Daughter Die in Well Incident
A rescue operation in Yancibi Village, located in the Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State, concluded in tragedy as a father and his 15-year-old daughter were found deceased in an abandoned well.
The victims have been identified as 45-year-old Abubakar Abdullahi and his daughter, Fiddausi Abubakar. Reports indicate that the pair fell into the well on the evening of July 21.
The Kano State Fire Service received a distress call regarding the incident and promptly dispatched firefighters to the scene. However, adverse conditions, including darkness, hindered the completion of the rescue that night.
On Wednesday, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer for the Kano State Fire Service, stated that an emergency team was later sent from the agency’s headquarters to assist in the operation.
“Upon arrival, the team successfully recovered both victims from the well. They were discovered unconscious and were subsequently confirmed dead,” Abdullahi said in the statement.
The bodies were handed over to the Village Head of Yancibi, Shamsu Sani, to facilitate burial arrangements.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Fiddausi fell into the well accidentally, prompting her father to attempt a rescue but ultimately leading to both of their deaths.
“The father attempted to rescue his daughter but was also unable to escape, resulting in the tragic loss of both lives,” the Fire Service added in its statement.
The Kano State Fire Service extended its condolences to the family and urged the public to refrain from entering wells without proper rescue equipment and trained personnel.
