Family of five found dead in Abia community
Investigation Underway in Abia State Family Deaths
The Abia State Police Command has launched an investigation following the discovery of five deceased individuals from the same family in Umuimo, located within the Osisioma Ngwa local government area. The bodies were found on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
Neighbors reported that the decomposing bodies of the family members were not seen for three days, prompting concern. According to sources, the family—comprised of Mr. Kachi Nnabugwu, his wife Mrs. Chinaza Nnabugwu, and their three young children—had not left their home since Sunday. Alarmed by the prolonged absence, neighbors forcibly entered the residence, where they found the five family members deceased.
Upon breaking inside, authorities reported finding containers of leftover food and a generator in the home.
The bodies were subsequently removed from the property and transported to the morgue, as local residents called for a thorough governmental investigation to ascertain the cause of death.
In a statement, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Maureen Chinaka confirmed the incident, noting that the Osisioma Divisional Police Headquarters had been notified by a relative of the deceased. After attempts to contact Mr. Nnabugwu failed, the family member went to the residence, where entry was gained after repeated knocks.
“The crime scene has been examined, and a preliminary visual inspection of the bodies was conducted. Photographs were taken, and the corpses have been deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy,” Chinaka said.
