Katsina Troops Rescue Kidnap Victim, Recover Stolen Livestock
KATSINA, Nigeria — Troops from Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North West reported the rescue of a kidnap victim and the recovery of 126 stolen livestock on Tuesday. The operation was part of “Operation FANSAN YAMMA.”
In a statement issued by Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, it was revealed that the operations occurred on July 26, 2026. Troops received a distress call regarding terrorist activity in Karkata Village, located in the Charanchi Local Government Area.
Upon advancing to the scene, the troops encountered terrorists and engaged in a firefight, compelling the assailants to flee and abandon their captive. The victim was rescued unharmed and returned to her family.
In a related operation, Sector 2 troops, collaborating with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), conducted coordinated raids in Wagin, Tundu Mobi, and Chadawaki areas of Batsari Local Government. These operations led to further arrests and the confiscation of a locally fabricated weapon, along with five cartridges. The arrested individuals and the recovered items were subsequently handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation.
Additionally, on the same date, troops ambushed suspected terrorists at a crossing point in Yankwani Village, Bakori Local Government Area, based on credible intelligence. The military engagement led to the fleeing of the terrorists, who abandoned 126 livestock, including 83 cows and 43 sheep. The recovered animals were presented to the Chairman of the Peace Keeping Committee in Bakori, in the presence of local government officials, for identification and the return to their rightful owners.
The Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force North West reiterated the commitment to sustained military operations against terrorist threats in the region, commending the troops for their courage and vigilance.
