Tragedy as missing NYSC member’s body recovered in Bayelsa

Nembe Local Government Area, Bayelsa State — A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Okebaram Stanley Chimaroke, was found dead under unclear circumstances, police confirmed on Thursday.
Chimaroke, 27, a Civil Engineering graduate and former president of the Students’ Union Government at the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, had been reported missing prior to the discovery of his body in a body of water in the Nembe community.
Sources indicate that Chimaroke may have been attacked by unidentified assailants before his disappearance. The Bayelsa State Police Command initiated a search operation after fellow corps member Aribisola Bisi Isaac reported him missing around 8:40 p.m. on July 25, 2026. Isaac was accompanied by another corps member, Adeola Marvelous.
According to police reports, Chimaroke was last seen at approximately 8:00 p.m. on July 24. Efforts to contact him via mobile phone were unsuccessful, raising alarms among his colleagues and prompting the search efforts.
Following the missing person report, police operatives were dispatched to the creek community, located about 45 minutes by boat from the Nembe Divisional Headquarters, to investigate and conduct a search.
As of the latest update, the Bayelsa State Police Command had not officially confirmed the recovery of Chimaroke’s body or provided further details on the circumstances of his death.
