Nigerian Army Arrests Two Suspected Boko Haram Collaborators in Borno

Troops from the Nigerian Army, operating under Operation HADIN KAI, have apprehended two individuals suspected of collaborating with Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). The arrests occurred during an intelligence-driven operation in the Magumeri Local Government Area of Borno State.

Counter-insurgency analyst Zagazola Makama reported the arrests via a social media post, indicating that the operation took place around 5:08 a.m. on July 28. It was jointly executed by the 109 Special Forces Battalion and Hybrid Forces, following reliable intelligence received from the Hybrid Forces Headquarters in Maiduguri.

The arrested individuals, identified as Modu Collu, 20, and 47-year-old Bashir Goni Tijani, are both residents of Magumeri town. Initial questioning of the suspects revealed that they acknowledged their involvement with Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters in the region.

During the operation, troops seized a Tecno mobile phone belonging to Collu. The device has been secured for further investigation.

Military sources confirmed that both suspects and the recovered evidence will be submitted to the Joint Intelligence Fusion Centre (JIFC) for additional inquiry and appropriate action.

This operation is part of ongoing efforts under Operation DESERT SANITY V, aimed at dismantling networks that support terrorism, disrupting logistics, and preventing insurgents from accessing local collaborators in the North-East.

While military authorities report that the overall security situation in the area remains relatively calm, they caution that conditions can be unpredictable. Troops have maintained high morale and operational readiness amid these challenges.
