Seven Suspected Cultists Arrested in Delta State

Operatives from the Delta State Police Command apprehended seven individuals believed to be involved in cult activities during an operation in Issele-Uku. The suspects, aged between 20 and 26, have been identified as Promise Esenjor, Wisdom Victor, James Wisdom, Chinedu Munonye, Onyemakonor Collins, Unah Oluchi, and Azomani Favour.

On July 27, 2026, members of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU) conducted a raid based on credible intelligence, leading to the arrests and the recovery of various items linked to criminal activity.

According to Police Public Relations Officer Edafe Bright, initial investigations revealed that the suspects admitted to affiliations with the Maphite Confraternity, a known cult group. Recovered items included a double-barrel gun, seven live cartridges, a cutlass, a cult beret, and seven Android phones, all found at their hideout.

In a related incident the same day, police in Abraka thwarted a gathering of suspected criminals along Omono Road. While most fled upon seeing law enforcement, Wale Morakinyo, 27, was arrested. A search of his bag uncovered two locally fabricated pistols and four live cartridges. Morakinyo is currently in custody as police efforts continue to locate the other suspects.

Commissioner of Police for Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, affirmed the command’s dedication to intelligence-led operations against cultism and violent crime. He urged the public to provide timely information to assist in maintaining safety within the state.
