Reuben Abati, an anchor at Arise News, has criticized the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, for what he describes as a failure in oversight that has brought embarrassment to the Nigerian government. Speaking on Thursday’s edition of Arise Television’s “Morning Show,” Abati urged Walson-Jack to consider resigning.
His remarks followed Walson-Jack’s admission that due diligence was not adequately performed when the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) was established. Abati noted that this lapse has raised concerns about the integrity of government operations under her leadership.
“There is a need for a comprehensive investigation into this matter,” Abati stated, emphasizing that the inefficiencies within the Civil Service pose a significant issue. He called for an audit of all government agencies to ensure their legitimacy.
“The self-indictment from Walson-Jack and her acknowledgment of negligence should not be overlooked; in many other countries, such admissions would typically result in resignation,” he said.
Abati further pointed out that the PFIPC’s purported Director-General, Adeyemi Adeniyi, was appointed without verifying the authenticity of the documents that established the agency. This incident raises questions regarding how many other governmental bodies might have been formed under similar circumstances.
“This situation reflects poorly on the Nigerian government and warrants a deeper investigation into the extent of these issues,” Abati concluded, reiterating that Walson-Jack should take personal responsibility for the failures under her watch.
