Gunmen Abduct Seminarian and Worshipper at Enugu Church
In a troubling incident, armed assailants invaded St. Joseph Catholic Church in Inoyi, located in the Affa area of Udi Local Government Area, Enugu State, during a Sunday morning service. Reports indicate that a seminarian and at least one parishioner were kidnapped.
The details of the attack emerged from a Facebook post by Sen Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, a social media influencer. He stated that the gunmen targeted the church while a seminarian was set to celebrate Mass. Alongside the seminarian, a catechist and another worshipper were also victimized. The kidnappers reportedly released the catechist shortly after the incident but took the seminarian and another individual with them.
In response to the abduction, local youths have begun search efforts in nearby bush areas. However, Ugwuanyi noted that residents are proceeding with caution, citing concerns over the perceived firepower held by the assailants.
“The whole village is thrown into frenzy as the search continues,” Ugwuanyi remarked, urging government authorities to enhance measures to address the growing insecurity in the region.
In another social media post, a separate user shared a video allegedly showing the aftermath of the attack and called for intervention from the Enugu State Government.
As of this report, the Enugu State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
