KACRAN Condemns Bandit Attacks in Northern Nigeria
The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has expressed strong condemnation of recent bandit attacks in Zamfara, Sokoto, and Katsina states, labeling the violence as inhumane and a threat to Nigeria’s food security.
In a statement released Monday, National President Hon. Khalil Mohammed Bello conveyed the association’s distress over reports of nocturnal assaults, mass killings, and the abduction of women and children, with accounts of victims being burned alive.
“How can anyone in their right mind kill, kidnap, and mercilessly burn their fellow human beings alive?” the statement questioned. “What crime have these innocent farmers, women, children, and the elderly committed to deserve such cruelty?”
KACRAN emphasized that no religious or cultural tenet justifies the targeting of non-combatants or acts of reprisal against innocent citizens.
The association appealed to the bandits to engage in dialogue and to immediately cease violence against rural communities. It also called for the unconditional release of all hostages.
KACRAN cautioned volunteer groups against extrajudicial actions targeting pastoralists. The statement warned that “not every Fulani is a bandit, just as not every citizen is a criminal,” asserting that profiling and reprisals only perpetuate the cycle of violence.
The organization urged Northern leaders—including politicians, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community elders—to take decisive action to curb the violence. KACRAN contended that the crisis can be resolved through dialogue, justice, and community engagement, rather than further bloodshed.
Additionally, KACRAN called upon the Federal Government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to implement its National Peace Roadmap. This strategy focuses on dialogue, the protection of farmlands, cattle routes, and grazing reserves, the engagement of repentant bandits, and a comprehensive disarmament process.
“With political will and sincerity of purpose, we are confident it can significantly restore peace to the North West and North Central within three to four months, by God’s grace,” Hon. Bello stated.
KACRAN concluded by reaffirming its commitment to collaborate with the government and security agencies to restore peace and prosperity across Nigeria.
