Zamfara NDC Calls for Accountability Amid Rising Insecurity
The Zamfara State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged the state government to enhance accountability in response to the escalating security crisis, emphasizing that the ongoing loss of lives signals a failure to safeguard residents effectively.
This call for action came in a statement from State Publicity Secretary Kasim AlMustapha, following the reported death of Bello Umar Abdullahi, who allegedly succumbed to gunshot wounds inflicted during an assault by suspected bandits.
The NDC highlighted that this incident reflects the persistent insecurity affecting communities throughout Zamfara, where residents are increasingly vulnerable to killings, kidnappings, and displacement.
Surajo Garba Mai Katako, the party’s chairman in Zamfara State, described the situation as tragic and extended condolences to Abdullahi’s family, offering prayers for his soul.
The NDC criticized the government for its ongoing failure to fulfill its fundamental duty to protect lives and property. Despite repeated commitments to combat banditry and violent crime, many inhabitants continue to face imminent threats.
The party urged the Zamfara State Government to move beyond verbal assurances and implement actionable and sustainable measures to resolve the security crisis. Additionally, it called on the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify military efforts, enhance intelligence gathering, and improve collaboration between agencies to ensure that those responsible for such attacks are apprehended and brought to justice.
As an opposition party, the NDC reaffirmed its commitment to demanding accountability from elected leaders, insisting that public officials must be held responsible for their obligations, particularly regarding the safety of citizens.
The party also expressed solidarity with victims of insecurity and their families while conveying its condolences once again to the family of the late Bello Umar Abdullahi.
