Community Shield: Arsenal thrash Man City to win first silverware of season
Arsenal secured a decisive 3-0 victory over Manchester City in the Community Shield, marking their first trophy of the 2026-2027 season. The match took place at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.
The Gunners displayed an aggressive approach from the start, taking the lead in the opening moments. Myles Lewis-Skelly connected with Riccardo Calafiori in the penalty area, allowing Calafiori to calmly slot the ball into the net after Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma misjudged the play.
Before halftime, Arsenal extended their advantage to 2-0 when Donnarumma mishandled a header from Kai Havertz, resulting in another goal for the Gunners. The final goal of the match came from Martin Ødegaard, who skillfully maneuvered through the defense to score Arsenal’s third.
Mikel Arteta’s squad is set to begin the defense of their Premier League title against Coventry City this Friday, while Manchester City will face Bournemouth in their next match.
