Oyo State Gubernatorial Candidate Highlights Out-of-School Children Crisis
IBADAN, Nigeria — Chief Adegboyega Adegoke, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) gubernatorial candidate for Oyo State, has expressed deep concern over the increasing number of out-of-school children in the state.
Speaking during the inauguration of his campaign council on Monday, Adegoke described the issue as alarming and called for immediate attention.
A recent report revealed that Oyo State has the highest number of out-of-school children in Southwestern Nigeria, with approximately 674,324 children aged 3 to 17 not currently attending school.
Adegoke criticized the situation, emphasizing that it persists despite substantial federal allocations to the state. He argued that enhancing local government autonomy is crucial for promoting grassroots human development and economic growth.
