Benue attack: 22 bodies recovered from Ukum communities — Lawmaker

The attack on the Mbaterem communities in the Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State has resulted in the recovery of 22 bodies, according to Solomon Wombo, a member of the House of Representatives representing the Logo-Ukum-Katsina Ala Federal Constituency.

The incident occurred around 5 a.m. on Sunday when armed assailants reportedly struck several communities, including Ayaba, Ukpen, Bom, Abaoajio, and Yina, leading to multiple fatalities and injuries among residents.

In a statement, Wombo condemned the violence, calling the actions of the attackers inhuman and unacceptable. He urged authorities to take immediate action to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack, stressing the need for justice.

Wombo also appealed to local residents to remain calm, vigilant, and adhere to the law. He cautioned against any retaliatory violence, emphasizing that such actions would likely lead to further loss of life and exacerbate the ongoing cycle of conflict.

“We must pursue justice through lawful and legitimate means,” he stated, underscoring the importance of maintaining peace in the aftermath of the tragedy.

He extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and expressed sympathy for those injured or displaced by the violence.
