Lagos: EFCC arraigns two over alleged sale of bank credentials for $15,000

The Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned two men in the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on charges related to the unlawful disclosure and supply of bank access credentials.

Gideon Bakpa Aghogho and Oscar Ebere Chukwuebuka appeared before Justice F.N. Ogazi on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. They are jointly charged with a third suspect, identified only as Scott, who remains at large.

The defendants face an eight-count indictment stemming from the alleged unauthorized provision of credentials that grant access to a bank database. The charges fall under Sections 27 and 28(1)(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act of 2015, as amended in 2024.

One specific charge states that Aghogho and Chukwuebuka, in collaboration with Scott, unlawfully supplied Aghogho’s access code for use within the system of First City Monument Bank (FCMB) between July 24 and July 26, 2026, in Lagos. The prosecution claims this access code, known as a local Administrative Credential, ITSD, could grant entry to the FCMB Virtual Center Platform and was supplied with the intent to facilitate criminal activity.

Another count alleges that Aghogho knowingly disclosed bank access credentials, including server IP and domain details, without authorization between April and May 2025. According to the charge, these credentials were allegedly disclosed to enable access to FCMB’s database in exchange for $15,000.

Upon the reading of the charges, Aghogho pleaded not guilty, while Chukwuebuka entered a guilty plea. In light of Aghogho’s plea, prosecution counsel Bilkisu Buhari requested a date for the trial’s commencement and asked the court to remand him in a correctional facility.

For Chukwuebuka, the prosecution sought permission to review the case details following his admission of guilt. Justice Ogazi then adjourned the case until August 27, 2026, for a review of the facts and further proceedings. The court also ordered that both defendants be held in a correctional center pending the next hearing.
