Boko Haram IED blast claims motorcyclist’s life on Niger-Kogi border

A motorcyclist, identified as Usman Machiya, was killed after his Bajaj motorcycle struck an improvised explosive device (IED) believed to have been planted by Boko Haram militants in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The incident occurred around 4:00 PM on Friday, August 21, 2026, while Machiya, a resident of Gyada village, was en route to Baturen-Daji in the Babanna District.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that Machiya encountered the explosive device during his ride. “The explosive device detonated, killing him instantly,” Makama stated.
Local security authorities were promptly notified, and troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Babanna were alerted to the incident.
In response to the explosion, additional security agencies in the vicinity were placed on high alert. Following the blast, security personnel increased surveillance along the route and conducted checks for further explosive devices in the area.
