Police arrest four as suspected cultists kill Edo Security Corps operative
Edo State Security Corps Personnel Killed in Cult Attack
Benin City, Edo State — Martins Enahoro, a member of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC), was reportedly killed by suspected cultists on Sunday around 12:20 p.m. in Ewatto, located in the Esan South-East Local Government Area.
According to the Edo State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, the incident occurred following an attack on Enahoro, during which he allegedly fatally injured one of his assailants.
Ikoedem stated that four suspects have been apprehended in connection with the incident. Two of the individuals reportedly confessed to affiliations with rival cult groups, the Vikings and Aiye confraternities. They have since been transferred to the Area Command Headquarters for further investigation, while police continue to pursue additional suspects.
The police spokesperson mentioned that following the assault, both Enahoro and the injured assailant, identified by the surname Gbozia, were transported to God’s Will Hospital in Ewohimi. Unfortunately, both were pronounced dead upon arrival. Their remains have been moved to the mortuary pending ongoing inquiries.
Ikoedem reiterated that assaults on security personnel are serious offenses and emphasized that such acts would not be tolerated by law enforcement.
This incident adds to ongoing concerns regarding cult-related violence in the region.
