Police Uncover Graves, Arrest Suspects in Imo State
ORSUOBODO, Nigeria — The remains of several individuals have been exhumed from shallow graves in bushes located in Orsuobodo, Oguta Local Government Area, Imo State. This discovery was made during an intensified operation led by the Imo State Police Command alongside other security agencies aimed at combating criminal activities in the region.
Following the apprehension of five individuals suspected of involvement in kidnapping, murder, and other violent crimes, the police announced the findings. Commissioner of Police Audu Garba Bosso addressed reporters after the suspects were paraded. He indicated that their interrogation led to confessions that unveiled a series of kidnappings and murders, prompting the search that uncovered multiple corpses buried in the area.
In addition, authorities recovered an assortment of weapons from the suspects, including 10 firearms, four AK-47 rifles, five pump-action shotguns, 260 rounds of GPMG ammunition, and 280 live cartridges.
The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Police Command also executed a separate operation, resulting in the arrest of two suspects, Amucha Nkemdirim Innocent and Michael Okafor. Both are accused of terrorism, kidnapping, and murder related to incidents in the Umuakagu-Nsu community. During the operation, officers seized two pump-action guns and nine rounds of live ammunition.
Bosso noted that the suspects confessed to the murder of Onyebuchi Anthony Njoku in Umuakagu-Nsu and the kidnapping of Nnamdi Ali and Ohaeri Nathaniel Onyema, who are reportedly being held in a stash house in Okigwe. He stated that “a coordinated intelligence-led operation is ongoing to rescue the victims.”
Furthermore, police arrested Chinaemerem Ogamba from Ubaheze Omoma in Oru-East LGA for the murder of Izanga, a resident of the same area. Authorities recovered a locally made pistol from Ogamba, who reportedly admitted to being affiliated with the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN). He claimed that he killed Izanga in retaliation, alleging that Izanga had murdered his brother.
Bosso commended the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams for their ongoing efforts and professionalism in combating crime. He reaffirmed the police command’s commitment to eradicating criminal elements and ensuring the safety of Imo State residents.
