Nollywood actress Mary Remmy Njoku has addressed the dynamics of couples when the wife achieves greater financial success than her husband, highlighting issues of ego and insecurity as potential challenges for men.

In a recent Instagram post, Njoku discussed the reactions of couples when traditional gender roles are reversed, noting that many women celebrate their husbands’ successes, viewing them as victories for the family. However, she underscored that some men struggle with feelings of inadequacy when their partners earn significantly more.

“When the woman starts earning significantly more, some men begin to feel emasculated, inadequate, or disrespected,” Njoku wrote. She emphasized that these feelings often arise even when the woman has done nothing to provoke such insecurities.

Njoku pointed out that disagreements can become intertwined with income disparities, stating, “Suddenly, every little disagreement becomes, ‘It’s because you have money more than me.’ And that’s the real issue.” She suggested that the root of the problem often lies in a man’s insecurity regarding his partner’s success rather than any action on the woman’s part.

The actress argued that a woman’s success should not diminish her husband’s self-worth. She believes that a loving partner should be able to celebrate each other’s achievements without fostering competition.

Njoku concluded her message with a candid observation about male ego, remarking, “But their ego no go gree.”
