Police arrest four, recover generators stolen from INEC office in Kebbi
The Kebbi State Police Command has apprehended four individuals in connection with the burglary of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in the Jega Local Government Area, where six generators were reportedly stolen.
According to police spokesperson SP Bashir Usman, all six generators have been recovered, although one had already been dismantled for sale as scrap metal. The arrests stemmed from investigative operations initiated after the command received reports of the break-in.
Detectives were deployed following the incident at the INEC office, leading to the arrests and recovery of the stolen equipment. Usman confirmed that one of the generators had been partially stripped of its parts before police intervention.
In a related operation on August 28, 2026, police arrested 24-year-old Aliyu Muhammed from Dudduke Village around 7:30 a.m. while he was allegedly in possession of bundles of aluminum cable wires hidden in a sack. During questioning, Muhammed admitted to conspiring with Yusuf Dudduke, also a resident of Dudduke Village, to vandalize and steal cables from an electrical pole in the area. Yusuf was subsequently apprehended, bringing the total number of individuals arrested for both incidents to six.
The suspects are currently in custody and will face charges in court once the investigation concludes. Commissioner of Police Umar M. Hadejia emphasized that vandalism of critical infrastructure, burglary, and theft of government property carry significant penalties. He urged community members to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement.
