Joint Task Force Neutralizes Terrorists, Seizes Ammunition in Northern Nigeria

Soldiers of the Joint Task Force North-West, operating under the mandate of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, successfully neutralized terrorists and confiscated a significant cache of ammunition during two separate operations in Zamfara and Kaduna states on September 2, 2026.

Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, made the announcement in a statement released on Wednesday. The operations were part of ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist activities and the trafficking of arms in the region.

In Zamfara State, troops from Sector 2 acted on intelligence reports regarding the movement of terrorists from the Fakai General Area toward Kwanar Jolof and Tashar Dole in the Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas. The troops executed an ambush at Kwanar Jolof, engaging the terrorists and neutralizing several of them, while others managed to flee.

During the operation, the troops recovered an RPG launcher, an RPG bomb, an AK-47 rifle, six AK-47 magazines, 106 rounds of ammunition, and a motorcycle.

In concurrent actions in Kaduna State, personnel from Sector 1 intercepted a vehicle at a checkpoint along the Saulawa-Zaria Road. When questioned, one of the passengers attempted to flee after being asked to open his bag. The troops pursued the individual and subsequently neutralized him.

Following this incident, a search of the bag revealed 793 rounds of ammunition concealed within gari, a common staple food. The vehicle and its driver are currently in military custody for further investigation.

Colonel Danja emphasized that these operations are part of the sustained efforts by the Joint Task Force to dismantle terrorist networks, obstruct the movement of arms and ammunition, and mitigate the activities of such groups across the Joint Operations Area.
