Nigerian Army Rescues Abducted Wife of Retired General
The Nigerian Army successfully rescued Mrs. Adonkie, the wife of retired Brigadier General Basil Adonkie, just hours after she was abducted from her home in the Federal Capital Territory.
The Army announced the operation in a press release on its official Facebook page on Thursday. According to the statement, troops acted on credible intelligence to advance through the Aco Estate-Goza Community area, where they engaged the kidnappers.
The pressure from the troops compelled the kidnappers to abandon Mrs. Adonkie and flee into nearby bushes. She was kidnapped on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, prompting a coordinated response from the Guards Brigade and Army Headquarters Garrison to locate her and secure her safe return.
Mrs. Adonkie was located and rescued in Angwan Sabo Village, while Army troops intensified their pursuit along the Aco Estate-Angwan Sayawa axis and deployed additional forces to block potential escape routes.
In a follow-up operation on Wednesday, September 2, troops apprehended two individuals suspected of being part of the kidnapping syndicate near Gaube Village in the Kuje Area Council. During this operation, the troops also recovered an AK-47 rifle, one magazine, and 19 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
The Army stated that operations to clear the area and track down additional members of the kidnapping network are ongoing. They praised local residents for their vigilance and cooperation and reiterated their commitment to protecting lives and property.
Additionally, the Army affirmed its collaboration with other security agencies to conduct intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and enhancing security across the Federal Capital Territory and surrounding areas.
